Mastic products from Chios
Mastiha comes from the the sap of the mastic tree (Pistacia Lentiscus var. Chia) produced only on the Greek island of Chios. It has been harvested for its culinary and therapeutic properties for over 1000 years, and these have now been formally endorseded by scientific research.

The mastiha sap falls from the tree in droplets known as ‘tears’ and these are allowed to harden naturally into crystals before they are harvested. On Chios they describe them as “a tear that pleases, perfumes, relieves and heals”. Mastiha has PDO status (Protected Designation of Origin) and is exported all over the world. It has many applications including as a food ingredient, in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
